Local tourist attractions – Penghu Youth Activity Center

Guanyin pavilion, Xiying rainbow bridge, Xiyu sunset

Guanyin pavilion is also known as Guanyin temple, situated next to Penghu Youth Activity Center. The approximately 200m long arched steel bridge is new landmark in Penghu, a rainbow over the sea. The views during the day and night are quite different, and you can leisurely enjoy watching the sunset here. The famous Penghu international fireworks festival, Penghu Bay swim and internaional windsurfin compeition are all held here, and is one of ther newer rtourist destination on Penghu main island.

Shuncheng Gate

Shuncheng Gate is part of the Magong City ruins, which was the last of city built in Taiwan by Qing dynasty. Of the original six gates to the city, only Shuncheng gate remains. You can view Makong harbor from the heights of Shuncheng Gate.

Aimen Beach

Aimen beach is in Lintou park , a narrow strip of arcing beach stretched out over three thousand meters. It is the longest beach in Penghu and covers the southern coast of Huxi township. The beach has very fine sand with clear water. It is a pristine beach formed from coral and shell debris and foramin remains. The star-shaped foramins in particular astounds visitors.

Penghu great bridge

The bridge is 2494m long, connecting Baisha and Xhiyu, and cross over the second most treacherous waterway in the Penghu waters. The old bridge was severely eroded and with the collapse of bridge, the foundation was broadened in 1984, and completed in 1996 to become a dual carriageway bridge.

Tongliang Great Banyan

The banyan tree in front of Baoan temple at Tongliang township is over three hundred year old, and is the oldest tree in Penghu. The banyan has over ninty-five aerial roots, and the shade it forms in front of the temple creates a cool rest place. It is difficult to differentiate between the original trunk and the aerial roots. It is unknown how this banyan came to be here, and the tree has lived for at least two hundred years.

Xiyu west fort

The fort was constructed under the order of Ming-chuan Liu in the Qing Dynasty due to China losing in the Sino-Franco war. The fort has an inner and outer wall, using rocks to form terraces on which sits the cannons. The fort is currently the most well preserved fort in Taiwan, with significant historical value.

Zhongtun Windmill Power Park

Zhongtun Windmill Power Park is in the second Zhongtun nursery, which has now been turned into a windmill park, becoming a new attraction and landmark for Baisha township. The wind powerplant is the second in Taiwan, and is the third generation wind turbine in Penghu. The second phase shall install eight turbines, each capable of generatin 6000 mega Watts, and are computer controlled. The blade angles can be adjusted to match the wind in order to maintain consistent power generation.

Xiyu light house

Xiyu light house is on the eastern heights on Xiyu’s southwest side, and is also called Pescadors Lighthouse as it was first named by the Portuguese. The lighthouse is build on a granite base, and the two storys western style building next to it is built from stone blocks. The structure is heaveily influenced by European architecture. From the light house area you are able to view the rapid Xiyu currents.
